Light Rail Purple Line, Tel Aviv

Preliminary and detailed design for the light rail section of the Purple Line within the city of Tel Aviv. The project included the design of a full street cross-section along the line’s alignment, integrating public transport, cycling lanes, private vehicle traffic and pedestrians, as well as impact analyses for the streets adjacent and perpendicular to the light rail alignment.

The alignment runs along the main and busiest streets in Tel Aviv’s urban fabric, including HaHagana Road, Levinsky, Allenby, Ben Yehuda and Arlozorov — streets characterized by high traffic volumes, many road users and an intensive mix of public transport and urban activity. This dictated a particularly complex design of the light rail corridor within existing streets, alongside the design of cycling lanes, bus stops and traffic lanes for private vehicles, as well as the assessment and selection of an optimal planning alternative for handling the conflicts between all types of traffic.
