Haifa Metronit

M.T.N. services on the project: Traffic Signals

Creating a transit signal priority system for the Metronit, providing full priority, in order to shorten journey times and improve the level of service following the line’s opening.

The Metronit project was designed and opened without traffic signal priority, and in practice an immediate need arose to reduce journey times along the corridor in order to make operations more efficient and to correct the impaired service. In full cooperation with Yefe Nof, the Haifa Municipality and the project management, a priority system was designed based on the knowledge and experience accumulated in Jerusalem, adapted to the characteristics of a BRT system and to the requirements of Haifa’s urban control centre.

Once the design and implementation were completed, the Metronit’s journey time was shortened by approximately 15 minutes along the entire line.
